* Where Are Gerber Toilets Made?

If you are looking to buy a brand new toilet, then there are of course many choices that you need to consider. One of the most important things is choosing the right brand for you.  In turn, one of the most important factors affecting your brand choice might be its manufacturing location.

Today, we are here to take a closer look at where Gerber, one of the most popular and trusted toilet brands, makes its toilets.

Where Are Gerber Toilets Made?

What Is Gerber and Who Owns It?

Ok, so what can get a little confusing here is that there is actually more than one brand out there with this name, Gerber. Now, the one you are probably familiar with is the Gerber company that makes baby food and baby products, but that is not what we are here to talk about. The company we are here to talk about is Gerber Plumbing Fixtures LLC, which is owned mostly by the Globe Union Group INC and the Globe Union Industrial Corp. This company was previously owned by the Gerber Plumbing and Fixtures Corporation but was sold to the Globe Union Group in 2003.

For those of you who don’t know, the Globe Union Group is one of the world’s largest suppliers of plumbing fixtures, a company that was first started in Taiwan in 1979. This company operates manufacturing, assembly, and distribution facilities, as well as marketing and sales offices in China, Taiwan, the UK, Germany, Mexico, Canada, and the USA.

At this time, the Gerber brand makes a wide variety of products including toilets, sinks, faucets, showers, and other related bathroom products. Primarily, it is a supplier of bathroom-related plumbing fixtures and products, as well as kitchen-related plumbing fixtures, and no, once again, this is not the same company that sells baby food!

As a brand itself, Gerber was founded in 1932 by none other than Max Gerber, who founded the company in the USA. Max Gerber, a Polish national of German descent, moved to the USA, where he would start what is effectively one of the most successful plumbing fixture brands of all time.

Are All Gerber Toilets Made in America?

Now, if you have a very old house or know of old houses that still have their original toilets in them, and those toilets were made by Gerber, then chances are pretty big that those toilets were made in the USA.

Up until the early 2000s, Gerber did manufacture the vast majority of its products in the USA, mainly around Chicago, Illinois, as this is where the brand was first founded when Max Gerber moved to the USA. So, older Gerber toilets and other plumbing fixtures were indeed made in the USA, which is one of the reasons why they were so popular, and still are to a large degree.

Now, with all of that being said, don’t forget that Gerber was sold to the Globe Union Group in 2003. When ownership changed from American hands to Taiwanese hands, so did the manufacturing locations. Although the Globe Union Group is Taiwanese, most of the products are indeed made in mainland China.

It is a bit difficult to find precise information in terms of exactly what products are made in which countries, but with that being said, from all of the evidence we have gathered, it is apparent that the manufacturing of Gerber toilets takes place primarily in China and Taiwan, with some manufacturing and assembly also happening in Mexico.

The short answer to the question asked in the heading there is that no, there are no Gerber toilets that are made in the USA, not for almost 20 years now.

Gerber Factories Around the World

Although the Globe Union Group does also have offices in the UK, Germany, the USA, and Canada, as far as we can tell, none of the products are actually made in any of these countries. One of the most recent manufacturing locations that the company acquired was in Coahuila, Mexico, but other than that, all of the information available strongly suggests that all Gerber toilets and plumbing fixtures are made in China, Taiwan, and Mexico.

Should You Avoid Gerber Products Made in China?

If there was any other option, we would say that you choose the American-made toilets over the Chinese- or Taiwanese-made toilets. However, seeing as Gerber makes all of its toilets in either China, Taiwan, or Mexico, there is no point in avoiding the Chinese-made products.

Beware that Gerber toilets are quite popular, but that said, they are not known for being the best in the world, particularly in terms of longevity. When it comes down to it, if you want a Gerber toilet, it was probably made in China, so there’s really no avoiding it.

Summary

There you have it folks, everything that you need to know about the Gerber brand, particularly in terms of where they make their toilets and other plumbing fixtures. Now that you know, you can make an informed decision between Gerber and the other big players in the world of toilets and plumbing fixtures.
